Local Community Celebration Benefits Partnership Mammography Project

Event proceeds will provide additional screening for 140 more women

For the third consecutive year, Wanda Klor and Michael Strong – husband and wife - have opened their hearts and home to host the Portera Common Community Celebration, an annual event dedicated to giving back to the community. Klor and Strong, who co-own a local realty company in San Jose believe giving back to the community through time or donations can positively impact challenges affecting their local neighborhood. Just recently, The Partnership was honored as one of their recipients. Proceeds raised from this year’s event benefited the Partnership’s Community Mammography Access Project (CMAP), a special program that provides free breast cancer screenings to low-income, medically underserved women in the community who otherwise would not be able to afford them.

More than 75 community members attended the event which raised over $1,200 for the Partnership and will provide additional screening for an estimated 140 more women and three more informational events at Partnership member clinics. As a breast cancer survivor, Klor together with her husband, were inspired to support CMAP because of her successful battle and remission as a result to early detection.

“This subject is near and dear to my heart,” Klor said. “I celebrated my 11th year of being breast cancer free at this event!” This project has been a lifelong dream of Klor’s and she plans to continue her fundraising efforts and grow the event year after year. Other beneficiaries include Second Harvest Food Bank, InnVision, and The Career Closet of Santa Clara County. All of the benefitting organizations provide services or items to people in the community who are in need.

The Women’s Health Partnership, a Community Health Partnership program, provides free breast cancer screenings to low-income, medically underserved women in the community who otherwise would not be able to afford them through its Community Mammography Access Project (CMAP). As early detection is a crucial component of successfully treating breast cancer, these screening services provide an advantage and hope for women faced with the daunting task of battling breast cancer.

CMAP continues to grow through the generous funds and support of such organizations such as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Francisco Affiliate, the Safeway Foundation, Breast Cancer Prevention Fund, the City of Santa Clara, Asian Americans Cancer Support Network, American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Connections, Kappa Theta, and the Portera Common Community Celebration.
